Applications
Styronal 304 is a binder for coating paper and board. It is mainly used to coat offset paper and board for food applications.
The pH of pigment slurries should be in the neutral-to-alkaline range before Styronal 304 is added. The dispersion should not be subjected to excessive shear, and care should be taken to avoid air being entrained.
We would recommend using rotary displacement pumps for coating colours prepared with Styronal 304.
All pipelines and equipment used to prepare pigment slurries should be flushed thoroughly with cold water immediately after shutting down the coater.
Paper coaters have to carry out their own trials when developing products that contain Styronal 304.
Its compatibility with other ingredients, its stability during coating and its effect on the ability of coatings to adhere to different substrates, etc., are affected by a variety of factors which are too numerous for us to take into account in our own trials.
Storage:
The air in the headspace of bulk storage tanks must be kept saturated with water vapour at all times.
This product must not be allowed to come into contact with bare iron or with copper and its alloys.
Customers interested in purchasing
this product in bulk should consult our leaflet on “The handling and storage of polymer dispersions”.
