Kymene™ 557H wet strength resin

Product Description

Kymene™ 557H wet-strength resin is a high efficiency, cationic resin that functions under acid or alkaline papermaking conditions.

Although Kymene 557H is used primarily to impart wet strength, it has several other important applications in papermaking such as retention, drainage, and flotation aid.

Product Application

Kymene 557H is most effective over a stock pH range of 4-9 with best performance at pH 6.5 to 8.5. Optimum results are obtained by adding diluted Kymene 557H to high-consistency stock.

Kymene 557H at 0.2 to 1.20% dry basis furnish levels is an effective wet-strength agent for sanitary papers, corrugating medium, linerboard, bag paper, liquid packaging board, and other paper grades where permanent wet strength is required.

Kymene 557H can also be used as a drainage and drying aid in unbleached paper and insulation board grades; a cationizing agent for unmodified starch; and a retention aid for dispersed size.

Wet broke containing Kymene 557H does not require special handling but dry broke should be repulped as soon as possible. Unbleached broke can be reworked best by adjusting stock pH to 12.0, heating to 160 ˚F, and applying high energy.

Bleached broke is defibered easily in the presence of 0.5 to 2% sodium or calcium hypochlorite (based on fiber) at pH 6 to 7 and 120 ˚F. Or for safe, ease to handle, chlorine free broke treatment use one of the Kybreak™ repulping aids.

Fiberglass should be used for bulk storage of Kymene 557H. Consult your Solenis representative for more information.
